VoIP technology converts voice data into packets for transmission over IP networks. Voice packets are sent using RTP (Real Time Protocol) through UDP (User Datagram Protocol). As soon as these packets reach their destination they get reassembled and converted back into an analog signal for playback on speakers or headphones. VoIP technology does not require additional hardware to work; all that’s needed is a computer with high speed internet access and a microphone and speaker system that supports VoIP applications.
